La Habra Heights Dial-a-Ride Service

DAR is a shared-ride system for City of La Habra Heights residents who are 60 and over or any resident with a permanent or temporary qualifying disability that prevents driving or use of public transportation (with a doctor’s certification).

The City of La Habra Heights contracts with the City of Whittier to operate the program. City of Whittier organize pick-ups and drop-offs in a way that allows us to serve as many residents as possible. The vehicles can easily accommodate wheelchairs and walkers. And the friendly, trained drivers are there to help you get safely on and off the vehicle.

You can go anywhere within La Habra Heights City limits, La Habra and portions of Whittier. There is also a special service to Brea Mall and to St. Jude Medical Center. The driver will stop at the curb and help you enter and leave the vehicle. Door-to-door service is available upon request.

DAR uses pre-paid ride cards. A special discounted monthly pass is available for low income residents. Assistants who are traveling to help you to and from your destination ride free.

Before you plan a trip, please review Dial-a-Ride information (including service guidelines and the application).

Dial-A-Ride Accommodations

The City of La Habra Heights may allow the reasonable modification of our Dial-A-Ride transportation service to accommodate special needs of persons with disabilities in order to allow them to fully utilize our Dial-A-Ride service.

Whenever possible a request for a reasonable modification or accommodation shall be filed in advance to the City of Whittier’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Accessibility Coordinator by email at mbrowne@cityofwhittier.org, by telephone at (562) 567-9470, or by mail at Whittier Senior Center, 13225 Walnut Street, Whittier, CA 90602.

Requests for reasonable modifications or accommodations will not be approved if the request would: fundamentally alter the nature of the service, program, or activity; create a direct threat to the health or safety of others; result in an undue financial and administrative burden; or the individual would still be able to fully use the services provided by the City of La Habra Heights without the modification. Individuals with disabilities may file complaints regarding reasonable modification or accommodation with the City of Whittier’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department by telephone at (562) 567-9400 or via email at pks@cityofwhittier.org.

For questions, please see the Reasonable Modification Frequently Asked Questions.

To make a request, please use the Reasonable Accommodation Request form.
